Frequently Asked Questions
Why AnimVedās?
Our focus is to have a very small team of handpicked industry experts who are highly skilled and love to share their animation knowledge with aspiring artists. The courses and assignments are designed to be challenging and fun mirroring the environment of a studio. This is a highly competitive industry and we believe in honest feedback to best help you grow and be ready for feature quality animation.
How does the course structure work?
For all the courses there will be a weekly 2 hour lecture on a specific animation topic tailored to the particular course and another weekly 2 hour critique session that goes over all the students work. The goal is for the instructor to demonstrate their workflow live over video call while also teaching you animation topics as they go through the course. We firmly believe in a studio style environment in our course structure and thus would like to mimic critique sessions as dailies at any of the major studio. This will serve as a great platform for everyone to learn from each other's work and build community.
How much experience do I need?
All courses currently taught at AnimVedās require students to have a decent understanding of a software of your choice (preferably Autodesk Maya). The course designed here at AnimVedās are meant to give you a solid foundation of animation principles and to elevate your existing animation skills to feature-level quality.
The 8 week course is meant for recent graduates and/or artists with less than 5 years of experience - who have a good understanding of Maya - but want to get a better understanding of the foundation - the principles of animation. This course will serve as a bedrock to any future animation work as this is where you understand and implement the fundamentals of animation. This course in our opinion is the most overlooked as not having a good understanding of Timing, spacing, posing etc. can hurt even experienced artists.
The 12 week course is meant for industry professionals who are looking to upskill and take their animation skills from good to exceptional. In this course students will create only 1 acting shot on a dialogue of their choice. We believe in quality over quantity and studios look for this in demo reels too while hiring. So the goal is to create a highly polished looking feature level acting shot where the artist demonstrates exceptional acting skills.
What configuration should my computer be?
-
8 GB of RAM (16GB recommended)
-
64-bit Intel or AMD with SSE4.2 instruction set
-
A webcam for online video calls.
-
Headphones and microphone
-
Ability to run maya smoothly
Will the animation rigs be provided?
Yes, any one of the rigs by Ramon Arango can be chosen for the course. The price of this is baked into the course. You are also free to chose a rig of your own choice, of course. In my experience the Rig quality of Ramon's rigs is one of the closest I have seen to feature films and I would highly recommend them.

How many hours a week should I dedicate to these courses?
As mentioned earlier, animation is a very competitive field and there are many students graduating each year. If we were to put a number - it would be anywhere near 30-40 hours of dedicated work on your course and assignments. The more time you can spend the better!
Will taking a course at AnimVedās guarantee a job?
No animation school can guarantee this. If they are guaranteeing this, that in our opinion is misguiding students. All an animation school can do is increase your chances of getting hired and help you improve your animation skills. Our goal is to best equip students to animate feature level work and we are determined to help as many students as possible achieve their goal.
